Entity Concept in HubDock Open Cloud Hybrid MDM

Hybrid MDM in HubDock Open Cloud MDM effectively combines virtual and physical MDM methods, utilizing the strengths of both for a flexible, comprehensive data management system. This approach allows for the efficient structuring, integration, and utilization of master data across different management styles. Hybrid MDM integrates registry and centralized data management, where administrators can 'persist' data, creating and updating virtual MDM entities within the physical MDM's centralized database. This ensures a cohesive and adaptable management of master data.

In HubDock Open Cloud MDM, an "Entity" refers to a unique, real-world object or concept, like a person, product, or organization, that you need to manage. An "Entity Type" categorizes these entities, essentially describing the kind of information being mastered, like categorizing all persons or products together. Each entity type has specific "Attributes," which are characteristics like a product's price or a person's date of birth.

For example, an entity in virtual MDM is assembled dynamically based on the member records by using linkages and then is stored in the MDM database. Conversely, an entity in physical MDM is based on matching records from the source systems that are merged to form the single entity.

As a software vendor partner, understanding and integrating concepts such as entities, entity types, and attributes into your software can enhance compatibility and data synchronization with the HubDock platform. By aligning with HubDock's hybrid MDM approach, your software can cater to diverse data management requirements, providing flexibility and reliability. This alignment enables your software to support comprehensive and accurate data profiles (golden records), adding value to your offerings and meeting the complex needs of modern data management.

Golden Record: The "golden record" concept is key for a a 360-degree view of your master data. It is the authoritative, comprehensive record of an entity, essential in MDM. It varies in its construction between virtual and physical MDM.

Entity: A unique object or concept in the real world (e.g. “Mr Smith”) that is managed within MDM, like a specific person, product, or organization.

Entity Type: Categorizes entities based on common characteristics. For instance, 'Person' could be an entity type, with corresponding database tables holding related data.

Attribute: A specific detail of an entity, such as 'Date of Birth' for the 'Person' entity type.

Record: The representation of data in storage, as a row in a database.

Member Record: How an entity is represented in individual source systems, potentially across multiple database tables.

Virtual MDM: Dynamically compiles member records from various sources into a single entity, creating a 'composite view'. Changes in source systems are reflected in this composite view.

Physical MDM: Centralizes entities from source systems into a single, unified record in the MDM database. This becomes the primary record for data modifications.
